What Is Architectural Cast Stone?

Architectural cast stone is made from a carefully mixed blend of Portland cement, fine or coarse crushed aggregate, and additives that allow us to precisely control the color, shade, and surface texture of each finished piece.

It matches the look and feel of natural stone — and in many cases outperforms it in terms of consistency and cost. For projects that require custom dimensions, specific detailing, or a precise color match, cast stone offers a level of control that quarried stone simply can't.

Cast Stone —Cast stone is also known as Vibrant Dry Tamp (VDT) a traditional dry pack method that produces exceptional surface detail and a refined finish. Petr trained in this technique in Europe, where it has been practiced for generations. It remains one of COBO's most valued capabilities and is rarely offered at this level in the U.S.

Our Casting Method

COBO works with two primary casting methods selected based on the requirements of each project:

Precast Concrete — Precast is also known as wet cast, suited for complex forms and larger-scale production runs

Colors

COBO offers a wide range of custom shading options.

Using white and gray Portland cement combined with crushed stone and pigment additives. All shades fall within three primary color families:

  • White

  • Sandstone

  • Grey

Both casting methods can be produced in
a variety of colors from the 3 main color groups,
while their finishes may vary in texture.

Finishes

The cast stone is produced in one finish:

  • Resembles natural sandstone/limestone texture.

The precast concrete comes in two distinct finishes:

  • A smooth finish

  • An etched finish, which exposes the aggregate

In addition to fabrication, COBO also offers:

  • Mold construction — custom molds built in-house for unique or proprietary profiles

  • Design & co-design services — if you have a concept that needs development, or no design at all, we can work with you to get to a finished spec
